Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes
  • 0.5 cup Gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Paprika
  • 6 cups Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)

Directions

Step 1

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Using a mandoline slicer with a waffle blade attachment, slice the potatoes into waffle shapes by rotating the potato 90 degrees after each pass through the mandoline.

Step 2

As you slice the potatoes, place them into a large bowl of cold water to remove excess starch. Let sit for at least 10 minutes.

Step 3

Drain and rinse the sliced potatoes under cold water. Pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible, which will help achieve a crispy texture.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the gluten-free all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix until well combined.

Step 5

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

Step 6

Dredge the dry potato slices in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour.

Step 7

Carefully place a batch of the seasoned potato slices into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot or fryer; fry in batches if necessary.

Step 8

Fry the potatoes for approximately 5-6 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Step 9

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil, and place them on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 10

Repeat the frying process with the remaining potato slices.

Step 11

Sprinkle the fried waffle fries with additional salt to taste, if desired, and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
