Ingredients

  • 200 grams gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 500 grams potato, peeled and boiled
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 400 grams canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 50 grams parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

For the gnocchi: Start by mashing the boiled potatoes in a large mixing bowl until smooth. Allow them to cool slightly before proceeding.

Step 2

Create a well in the center of the mashed potatoes and add the gluten-free flour, egg, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Step 3

Gently combine the ingredients, kneading into a soft dough. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a bit more flour as needed.

Step 4

On a floured surface, roll the dough into long ropes about 1 inch in diameter. Cut these ropes into 1-inch pieces.

Step 5

Use a fork to gently press the cut pieces, forming ridges on one side for holding sauce.

Step 6

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add the gnocchi. Cook in batches if necessary. Gnocchi are done when they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

Step 7

For the meat sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 8

Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Step 9

Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.

Step 10

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, and black pepper. Lower the heat to simmer and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.

Step 11

Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the meat sauce. Gently fold the gnocchi into the sauce until well-coated.

Step 12

Before serving, sprinkle with chopped fresh basil leaves and grated parmesan cheese. Serve hot.
