Ingredients

  • 500 grams Fish fillets (firm white fish such as cod or tilapia)
  • 200 grams Gram flour (besan)
  • 50 grams Rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 150 milliliters Water
  • 500 milliliters Vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

Cut the fish fillets into bite-sized pieces and set them aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the gram flour and rice flour.

Step 3

Add the ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.

Step 4

Gradually add water to the dry ingredients to form a thick and smooth batter. The consistency should be such that it coats the back of a spoon.

Step 5

Add the chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice to the batter and mix well.

Step 6

Dip each piece of fish into the batter, ensuring it is evenly coated.

Step 7

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium heat.

Step 8

Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the batter-coated fish pieces into the oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.

Step 9

Fry the pakoras until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.

Step 10

Use a slotted spoon to remove the pakoras from the oil and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 11

Serve the gluten-free fish pakoras hot with your favorite dipping sauce or chutney.
