Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef or lamb
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 large Onion, finely diced
  • 2 medium Carrot, finely diced
  • 2 stalks Celery stalks, finely diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free)
  • 1 cup Beef broth (gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 cup Frozen peas
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1.2 kilograms Potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Gluten-free flour blend

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions, carrots, and celery, and sauté until they are soft, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3

Add the garlic and cook for another minute, until fragrant.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef or lamb to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon.

Step 5

Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Sprinkle the gluten-free flour over the mixture and stir to combine.

Step 6

Add the beef broth, stir to combine, and simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

Step 7

Add the frozen peas, season with salt and black pepper, and mix well. Remove from heat.

Step 8

Meanwhile, in a large pot, bring water to a boil and cook the potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 9

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, mashing until smooth and creamy. Season with additional salt if desired.

Step 10

Spread the meat mixture evenly in a baking dish. Carefully spread the mashed potatoes over the top, smoothing with a spatula.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Step 12

Let the shepherd's pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your comforting gluten-free meal!
