Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 60 grams gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • 1 unit large egg
  • 50 grams grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 unit small onion, finely chopped
  • 800 ml canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 5 leaves fresh basil leaves

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, gluten-free breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 2

Shape the meat mixture into small balls about 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a plate or tray.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches to avoid overcrowding, and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes per batch. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, and stir well to combine. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken slightly.

Step 6

Return the meatballs to the skillet, gently nestling them into the tomato sauce. Simmer on low heat for another 20 minutes, ensuring the meatballs are fully cooked through.

Step 7

Add the fresh basil leaves to the sauce a few minutes before serving. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.

Step 8

Serve the gluten-free meatballs in tomato sauce hot. They pair well with gluten-free pasta, rice, or zoodles.
