Ingredients

  • 2 pieces gluten-free hoagie rolls
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 piece green bell pepper, diced
  • 0.5 piece yellow onion, diced
  • 1 piece tomato, sliced
  • 4 leaves lettuce leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup

Directions

Step 1

Place the gluten-free hoagie rolls in a preheated 350°F (180°C) oven for about 5 minutes to warm and lightly toast them.

Step 2

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced yellow onion and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onion and bell pepper. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook, breaking the meat with a spatula, until it is browned and cooked through, about 7 minutes.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the cooked beef, and allow it to melt, stirring occasionally to combine the meat and cheese.

Step 5

Remove the rolls from the oven and carefully slice them open. Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise on one side of each roll and a tablespoon of ketchup on the other side.

Step 6

Evenly distribute the cheesy beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the rolls.

Step 7

Top each sandwich with fresh lettuce leaves and tomato slices.

Step 8

Close the sandwiches with the top halves of the rolls, slice them in half if desired, and serve immediately.
