Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 0.5 cup Dark chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan with gluten-free flour, or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the gluten-free flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well to ensure even distribution.

Step 3

In another bowl, combine the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the applesauce and vegetable oil to the sugar mixture, and beat until fully incorporated.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed. Pour in the boiling water slowly while mixing until a smooth batter forms.

Step 6

Fold the dark chocolate chips into the batter using a silicone spatula or spoon.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Step 10

Once cooled, serve the cake as is or with a dusting of powdered sugar for an added touch.
