  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 2 tablespoons Gluten-free flour (for dusting)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 150 grams Grated cheese (such as Gruyere or cheddar)
  • 100 grams Ham slices (or a vegetarian alternative)
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh thyme leaves
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Lightly dust a clean work surface with the gluten-free flour to prevent sticking.

Step 3

Roll out the gluten-free puff pastry to about a 1/4 inch thickness.

Step 4

Cut the pastry into small squares, approximately 6 cm by 6 cm. You should get about 24 squares.

Step 5

In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash.

Step 6

Brush a light layer of Dijon mustard onto each pastry square.

Step 7

Place a small amount of grated cheese at the center of each square, followed by a small piece of ham.

Step 8

Sprinkle a pinch of fresh thyme leaves over the ham and cheese. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

Step 9

Fold each square in half diagonally to form a triangle, and gently press the edges to seal.

Step 10

Use a fork to crimp the edges of each triangle for a decorative touch.

Step 11

Place the pastry triangles on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.

Step 12

Brush the tops of each puff pastry bite with the egg wash to promote a golden, shiny finish when baked.

Step 13

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.

Step 14

Allow the bladerdeeghapjes to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Step 15

Serve warm. These can be enjoyed alone or with a dipping sauce of choice.
