Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpea flour (Besan)
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 1 medium, thinly sliced Red onion
  • 2 small, finely chopped Green chili
  • 0.25 cup, chopped Fresh cilantro
  • 1 inch piece, grated Ginger
  • 2 minced Garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 2 cups, for frying Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the chickpea flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and baking soda.

Step 2

Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously, until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Step 3

Add the sliced red onion, green chili, cilantro, ginger, and garlic to the batter. Mix well to ensure the spices and vegetables are evenly distributed.

Step 4

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small amount of batter into the oil. If it sizzles and rises to the surface, the oil is ready for frying.

Step 5

Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 6

Fry the bhajias for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

Step 7

Use a slotted spoon to remove the bhajias from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Step 8

Serve hot with chutney or ketchup. Enjoy your gluten-free bhajias as a delightful snack!
