Ingredients

  • 350 grams Gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 50 grams Sugar
  • 250 milliliters Warm water
  • 2 teaspoons Dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 400 grams Pork shoulder, minced
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Gluten-free soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Oyster sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 Boiled eggs, quartered
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions, finely chopped

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix the yeast, 1 teaspoon of the sugar, and half of the warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, baking powder, and remaining sugar. Gradually add in the yeast mixture, remaining warm water, and vegetable oil, mixing until a smooth dough forms.

Step 3

Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, then cover with a damp cloth and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 4

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by heating a tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, sauté until softened.

Step 5

Add the minced pork to the pan. Cook until browned and cooked through.

Step 6

Stir in the gluten-free soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the filling cool slightly.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into a disk about 4 inches in diameter.

Step 8

Place a spoonful of pork filling in the center of each disk, top with a piece of boiled egg, and sprinkle with some chopped green onions.

Step 9

Gather the edges of the dough circle and pleat to enclose the filling, pinching the top to seal.

Step 10

Place each bun on a small piece of parchment paper in a steamer.

Step 11

Steam the buns over boiling water for 15-20 minutes, ensuring the steamer lid is covered with a cloth to prevent water from dripping onto the buns.

Step 12

Serve warm and enjoy your gluten-free Banh Bao.
