Ingredients

  • 1 liter Red grape juice
  • 500 ml Apple juice
  • 1 whole Orange
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon sticks
  • 5 pieces Cloves
  • 2 pieces Star anise
  • 3 pieces Cardamom pods
  • 1 inch Fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons Honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 250 ml Water

Directions

Step 1

Pour the red grape juice, apple juice, and water into a large pot.

Step 2

Slice the orange into thin rounds and add them to the pot.

Step 3

Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cardamom pods, and the peeled and sliced piece of ginger.

Step 4

Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Do not let it boil.

Step 5

Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let the ingredients infuse for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

After infusing, stir in the honey or maple syrup and the vanilla extract. Adjust sweetness to taste if necessary.

Strain the Glühwein through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices and orange slices.
