Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups Cornmeal
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.25 cups Warm water
  • 0.25 cups Olive oil
  • 0.33 cups Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 4 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (crumbled, cooked, and drained)
  • 1.5 cups Crushed tomatoes (canned, drained)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5-7 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

Step 2

Add the melted butter, olive oil, salt, cornmeal, and flour to the bowl. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 7-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 3

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Grease a 12-inch deep-dish pizza pan or cast-iron skillet with olive oil or non-stick spray.

Step 5

Roll out the dough into a large circle and press it into the pan, ensuring the dough comes up the sides to form the deep-dish crust.

Step 6

Layer the shredded mozzarella cheese on the bottom of the crust. Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the cheese.

Step 7

In a bowl, mix the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and garlic powder. Spread the tomato mixture over the sausage layer.

Step 8

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the pizza.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

Step 10

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
