Ingredients

  • 250 grams fresh ginger root
  • 500 grams granulated sugar
  • 60 ml lemon juice
  • 500 ml water

Directions

Step 1

Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin pieces or grate it using a fine grater for a smoother texture.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the ginger, water, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes to soften the ginger.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar to the saucepan and stir until it dissolves completely.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Stir frequently to prevent sticking and ensure an even consistency. Allow the mixture to cook for 20-25 minutes or until it thickens and reaches a jam-like consistency.

Step 5

To test the consistency, place a small spoonful of the jam on a cold plate and let it cool. If it wrinkles when pushed with your finger, it is ready. If not, continue cooking for a few more minutes and test again.

Step 6

Once the desired consistency is achieved, remove the saucepan from heat and allow the jam to cool for 5-10 minutes.

Step 7

Transfer the ginger jam into sterilized jars while it is still warm, leaving about 1 cm of headspace at the top. Seal the jars tightly with lids.

Step 8

Allow the jam to cool completely at room temperature before storing it in the refrigerator. The jam will keep for up to 4 weeks.
