Ingredients

  • 2 cups Milk
  • 0.5 cups Heavy cream
  • 4 ounces Dark chocolate, chopped (70% cocoa or higher)
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder
  • 3 slices Fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cinnamon (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 serving Whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, and the slices of fresh ginger. Place over medium heat and allow it to heat until steaming, but not boiling (about 5 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

Step 2

Once the milk mixture is hot, reduce the heat to low and let the ginger steep in the liquid for about 2-3 minutes to infuse its flavor.

Step 3

Remove the ginger slices using a slotted spoon or tongs and discard them.

Step 4

Add the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and granulated sugar to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).

Step 5

Stir in the vanilla extract and taste. Adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if necessary.

Step 6

Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. If desired, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with a pinch of ground cinnamon for extra warmth and aroma.

Step 7

Serve immediately and enjoy your comforting Ginger Hot Chocolate!
