Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 0.5 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 0.25 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 pieces whole-grain hamburger buns
  • 4 pieces lettuce leaves
  • 4 pieces tomato slices
  • 4 teaspoons low-fat mayonnaise (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your George Foreman grill for at least 5 minutes with the lid closed.

Step 2

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, finely chopped onion, green bell pepper, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly but gently to ensure even seasoning without overworking the meat.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into burger patties, approximately 1/2 inch thick.

Step 4

Place the patties onto the preheated grill and close the lid. Cook for 4 minutes, then check for doneness. If needed, cook an additional 1-2 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Step 5

While the burgers are grilling, lightly toast the hamburger buns on a dry skillet or in a toaster, if desired.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by spreading 1 teaspoon of low-fat mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun (if using). Add a lettuce leaf, a cooked burger patty, a slice of tomato, and top with the other half of the bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately with your favorite side dish, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh salad, for a wholesome meal.
