Ingredients

  • 1 cup Soy Sauce (preferably Aloha Shoyu)
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Pineapple Juice (100% juice, no added sugar)
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger (grated)
  • 2 teaspoons Sesame Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water (cold, to dissolve cornstarch)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, and pineapple juice. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

Step 2

Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 4

In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the cold water to create a smooth slurry.

Step 5

Once the sauce is simmering, slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry to the pan. Continue to stir as the sauce thickens to your desired consistency (about 2-3 minutes).

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the sauce to cool slightly.

Step 7

Store the teriyaki sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Shake or stir before use.
