Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup Chicken broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha or chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, and brown sugar. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved.

Step 2

In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a small saucepan over medium heat and add the sesame oil.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and ginger to the saucepan and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Step 5

Pour the soy sauce mixture into the saucepan and stir well. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 6

Stir in the chicken broth (or water) and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

Step 7

Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan, stirring constantly to avoid clumping. The sauce will thicken within 1-2 minutes.

Step 8

Stir in the sriracha or chili sauce to your desired spice level, and simmer for another minute.

Step 9

Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before using it to coat chicken, tofu, or vegetables.

Step 10

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
