Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1.5 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 teaspoons Cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons Water
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger, grated
  • 0.5 teaspoons Crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and honey. Stir well until all liquid ingredients are fully blended.

Step 2

In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until it forms a smooth slurry. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn.

Step 4

Pour in the mixed liquid ingredients from Step 1 into the saucepan. Stir to combine with the garlic and ginger.

Step 5

If you want some spice, add the crushed red pepper flakes at this stage.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then slowly drizzle in the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

Step 7

Continue to simmer the sauce for 1-2 minutes more, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 8

Remove from heat and use immediately as a stir fry sauce, or let cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
