Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati rice
  • 6 pieces Garlic cloves (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil or ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 pieces Green chilies (slit lengthwise)
  • 2 cups Cooked rice
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Cilantro leaves (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the basmati rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions and let it cool completely. This helps prevent the grains from sticking together.

Step 2

In a wide pan or skillet, heat the vegetable oil or ghee over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter for about 30 seconds to release their aroma.

Step 4

Add the finely chopped garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to ensure it doesn’t burn.

Step 5

Add the slit green chilies and cook for another minute.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the turmeric powder and salt.

Step 7

Gently fold in the cooked rice and mix well to ensure each grain is coated with the garlic and spice mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring lightly to avoid breaking the rice.

Step 8

Remove from heat and garnish with chopped cilantro leaves.

Step 9

Serve hot as a side dish with your favorite curry or enjoy it as is!
