Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups Warm water (110°F)
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 large Egg
  • 4 cloves Minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant dry yeast.

Step 2

Add warm water, 4 tablespoons of melted butter, olive oil, and the egg. Mix well until a shaggy dough forms.

Step 3

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can knead the dough in a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 5

Grease two 8x4-inch loaf pans and set aside. Punch down the dough and divide it into small portions, roughly the size of a golf ball.

Step 6

In a small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter with minced garlic and chopped parsley.

Step 7

Dip each dough ball into the garlic butter mixture and roll it in grated Parmesan cheese (and shredded mozzarella if using).

Step 8

Layer the coated dough balls into the prepared loaf pans, slightly overlapping them to create a pull-apart effect.

Step 9

Cover the pans with a kitchen towel and let the loaves rise for another 30 minutes, or until slightly puffy.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the loaves for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 11

Remove the loaves from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Step 12

Serve warm, garnished with additional parsley and grated Parmesan if desired.
