Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes
  • 6 whole Garlic cloves
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel and cut the russet potatoes into evenly sized 1-inch chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover them with cold water.

Step 2

Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the pot and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to a simmer, and cook the potatoes for 15-18 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.

Step 3

While the potatoes are cooking, prepare the garlic: Peel the garlic cloves and place them in a small skillet. Add just enough water to cover the cloves and simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until tender.

Step 4

Once the garlic is tender, drain the water from the skillet. Add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the skillet and cook the garlic over medium heat until golden and caramelized, about 5 minutes. Mash the garlic into a paste using the back of a spoon or fork.

Step 5

When the potatoes are done, drain them well and return them to the pot. Place the pot over low heat for 1-2 minutes to allow excess moisture to evaporate.

Step 6

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream, milk, and remaining 4 tablespoons of butter over low heat until the butter melts and the mixture is warm.

Step 7

Using a potato masher or potato ricer, mash the potatoes in the pot until smooth and lump-free. Stir in the warm cream mixture and mashed garlic until fully incorporated and creamy.

Step 8

Season the mashed potatoes with salt and ground black pepper to taste. If desired, sprinkle with fresh parsley for garnish before serving.

Step 9

Serve hot and enjoy your silky, flavorful garlic mashed potatoes!
