Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ribeye steak
  • 6 cloves Garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 large Baguette
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 large Onion
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Parsley (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Begin by removing the ribeye steak from the refrigerator and letting it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.

Step 2

Mince 4 cloves of garlic and set aside. Thinly slice the remaining 2 cloves and reserve for the garlic butter.

Step 3

Slice the onion into thin rounds and set aside.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

Rub the steak with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt, pepper, and half of the minced garlic.

Step 6

Increase skillet heat to medium-high. Place the steak in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove the steak and let it rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

Step 7

While the steak rests, prepare the garlic butter. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat, then add the reserved sliced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until fragrant and lightly golden. Remove from heat.

Step 8

Slice the baguette into 4 equal portions and split each piece lengthwise. Brush the cut sides with the garlic butter, then toast in a hot skillet or under the broiler until golden and crisp.

Step 9

Layer the bottom half of each toasted baguette with caramelized onions, a generous portion of sliced steak, and a slice of provolone cheese. Place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, just until the cheese melts.

Step 10

Top with chopped parsley for garnish, if desired, then place the top half of the baguette to complete the sandwich. Serve warm and enjoy!
