Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Whole-grain Dijon mustard
  • 1.75 cups Buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Egg, lightly beaten

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder until evenly combined.

Step 3

Stir in the chopped parsley and thyme to evenly distribute the fresh herbs throughout the dry ingredients.

Step 4

In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, Dijon mustard, melted butter, and the beaten egg until smooth and fully blended.

Step 5

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. Stir gently with a wooden spoon or spatula just until a shaggy dough begins to form. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently 4–5 times to bring it together. The dough should be soft but not sticky.

Step 7

Shape the dough into a round loaf and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.

Step 8

Using a sharp knife, score an 'X' about 1/2 inch deep on the top of the loaf. This helps the bread bake evenly.

Step 9

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 10

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
