Ingredients

  • 3 sheets Nori (dried seaweed sheets)
  • 2 tablespoons White sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Black sesame seeds
  • 1 cup Katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Optional: dried shrimp, wasabi powder, or chili flakes

Directions

Step 1

1. Toast the white and black sesame seeds in a dry pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until they are fragrant and slightly golden. Remove from heat and let cool.

Step 2

2. Using scissors, cut the nori sheets into small strips or crumble them into tiny pieces by hand. Set aside.

Step 3

3. In a dry skillet over low heat, toast the katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) for 1-2 minutes to enhance the flavor. Remove from heat.

Step 4

4. In a small bowl, combine the salt, sugar, and soy sauce. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Step 5

5. Add the toasted sesame seeds, katsuobushi, nori, and any optional ingredients (such as dried shrimp, wasabi powder, or chili flakes) to the bowl with the seasoning mixture.

Step 6

6. Toss the ingredients until everything is well-coated in the soy sauce blend.

Step 7

7. Spread the mixture evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow it to air dry for 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, place it in a low oven (200°F or 90°C) for 5 minutes to expedite drying.

Step 8

8. Once fully dried, transfer the furikake to an airtight container for storage. It can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Step 9

9. Use as a seasoning to sprinkle over rice, noodles, soups, or vegetables. Enjoy!
