Ingredients

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry sheets
  • 227 grams cream cheese
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 150 grams assorted fresh fruit (e.g., berries, peach slices, kiwi, or mango)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to the package instructions, usually about 15 minutes at room temperature, or until pliable but still cool to the touch.

Step 3

In a medium mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth and creamy.

Step 4

On a lightly floured surface, roll out each puff pastry sheet slightly and cut each into 4 equal squares, making a total of 8 squares.

Step 5

Place the squares on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.

Step 6

Score a smaller square inside each pastry square (about 1 cm from the edge), being careful not to cut all the way through. This will create a border for the filling and allow the edges to puff up while baking.

Step 7

Spoon about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square and spread it evenly within the scored border.

Step 8

Arrange the fresh fruit slices or berries on top of the cream cheese filling in a decorative pattern.

Step 9

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of each pastry square with the egg wash to help them turn golden brown during baking.

Step 10

Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are puffed and golden brown.

Step 11

Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly on the baking sheet.

Step 12

If desired, dust the pastries with powdered sugar before serving for an extra touch of sweetness and elegance.

Step 13

Serve warm or at room temperature for a delightful breakfast or brunch treat.
