Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.75 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for dough)
  • 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 teaspoons cinnamon powder
  • 0.25 cups powdered sugar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional for drizzle)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt.

Step 2

Gradually add the warm water and vegetable oil for the dough. Mix until the dough starts to come together.

Step 3

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 5

Meanwhile, heat the vegetable oil for frying in a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).

Step 6

Divide the rested dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it with a rolling pin until it is thin and round, about 6 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Carefully place one piece of dough into the hot oil. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crisp. Use tongs to flip and remove the fried buñuelo, placing it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 8

Repeat with the remaining dough portions.

Step 9

Mix the cinnamon powder with powdered sugar (optional) and sprinkle it generously over the fried buñuelos while they are still warm. Alternatively, drizzle with honey for added sweetness.

Step 10

Serve the buñuelos warm as a delightful snack or dessert. Enjoy!
