Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.25 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

Step 2

Add ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 3

Drain excess grease from the skillet and return to heat. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a parchment-lined surface to prevent sticking.

Step 5

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, chopped parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth and set aside.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping them. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the shredded mozzarella cheese, and 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce.

Step 9

Repeat the layering process two more times (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, sauce). Finish with a final layer of mozzarella cheese on top.

Step 10

Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 11

Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with additional chopped parsley if desired.
