Ingredients

  • 300 grams Mixed dried fruit (e.g., figs, apricots, prunes, raisins)
  • 250 ml Hot black tea
  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 100 grams Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 100 grams Chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts)

Directions

Step 1

Chop the mixed dried fruit into small, bite-sized pieces. Place the chopped fruit in a bowl and pour the hot black tea over it. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes to rehydrate, then drain and set the fruit aside.

Step 2

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a loaf pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, baking powder, and salt. Stir the dry ingredients together until evenly mixed.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Pour the beaten eggs into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Step 5

Add the drained dried fruit and chopped nuts to the batter. Gently fold them in until evenly distributed. The batter will be thick.

Step 6

Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with the back of a spoon or a spatula.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.

Step 8

Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Step 9

Serve slices of Früchtebrot plain or with a spread of butter. It also pairs beautifully with a cup of coffee or tea.
