Ingredients

  • 16 oz spaghetti pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, finely diced
  • 4 units garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3

Add the diced onion to the saucepan and sauté until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Mix well to combine.

Step 5

Add the dried Italian seasoning, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the sauce. Stir to incorporate all the spices.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 7

Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.

Step 8

Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and optional fresh basil leaves for garnish.
