Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 20 pieces Chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreos)
  • 3 cups Buttercream frosting
  • 0 as needed Food coloring (green, optional)
  • 6 pieces Edible flowers or flower-shaped candies
  • 6 pieces Flower pot molds or clean, food-safe terracotta pots

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the interior of the flower pot molds or clean terracotta pots with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.

Step 4

Slowly stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

Step 5

Pour the batter evenly into the greased pots, filling each about halfway to allow room for the cake to rise.

Step 6

Place the pots on a baking sheet and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 7

Allow the cakes to cool completely in the pots on a wire rack.

Step 8

While the cakes cool, place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor and pulse until they resemble fine crumbs, mimicking 'dirt'. Set aside.

Step 9

Optional: Add green food coloring to the buttercream frosting to create a grassy effect.

Step 10

Once the cakes are cool, spread a thin layer of buttercream frosting over the top of each cake.

Step 11

Sprinkle the cookie crumbs generously over the frosting to create the 'dirt' topping.

Step 12

Insert edible flowers or flower-shaped candies into the center of each cake to complete the flower pot effect.

Step 13

Serve and enjoy your delightful Flower Pot Cakes!
