Ingredients

  • 400 g fettuccine pasta
  • 50 g unsalted butter
  • 40 g all-purpose flour
  • 600 ml whole milk
  • 100 g grated Parmesan cheese
  • 100 g grated mozzarella cheese
  • 100 g thinly sliced prosciutto
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0 to taste salt
  • 0 to taste black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the fettuccine pasta until just al dente, according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour to form a roux and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Step 4

Gradually add the milk to the roux, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook the béchamel sauce over medium heat until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the nutmeg, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, and all of the mozzarella. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Remove from heat.

Step 6

Grease a large baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Layer half of the cooked fettuccine in the dish.

Step 7

Spoon half of the béchamel sauce over the pasta and evenly distribute half the prosciutto slices on top.

Step 8

Repeat the layers with the remaining fettuccine, béchamel sauce, and prosciutto.

Step 9

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and the remaining Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the dish.

Step 10

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

Step 11

Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
