Ingredients

  • 500 g ground lamb
  • 100 g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 15 g fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 0 to taste tzatziki sauce (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, crumbled feta cheese, chopped mint, minced garlic, finely chopped red onion, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, and black pepper.

Step 2

Using your hands, gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix to avoid tough burgers.

Step 3

Divide the lamb mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, roughly 2 cm thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Step 4

If cooking on a barbecue, preheat it to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates. If pan-frying, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 5

Cook the lamb patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are browned on the outside and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer if needed: lamb should reach an internal temperature of 71°C (160°F) for medium-well.

Step 6

Toast the burger buns slightly on the grill or in the skillet if desired.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato on the bottom half of each bun. Add the cooked lamb burger patty, top with tzatziki sauce (if using), and close with the top half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes or a fresh salad.
