Ingredients

  • 2 pieces Fresh tuna steaks
  • 2 tablespoons Fennel seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.25 cup Fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon Orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Soy sauce
  • 2 cups Baby greens or arugula
  • 0.5 cup Orange segments

Directions

Step 1

Place the fennel seeds into a spice grinder or mortar and pestle, and grind until coarsely crushed.

Step 2

Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 3

Rub each tuna steak with the crushed fennel seeds, pressing gently to adhere a crust on both sides.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once shimmering, carefully place the tuna steaks in the pan.

Step 5

Sear the tuna for 1-2 minutes on each side for rare to medium-rare doneness or longer if you prefer it more cooked. Remove and set aside to rest.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, grated ginger, honey, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to make the vinaigrette.

Step 7

To serve, arrange the baby greens or arugula on a serving plate. Top with orange segments.

Step 8

Slice the seared tuna steaks and place them on top of the greens. Drizzle with the orange ginger vinaigrette.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful fennel-crusted tuna with the bright citrus dressing!
