Ingredients

  • 8 slices Thick-cut bread slices
  • 200 grams Farmhouse cheddar cheese
  • 200 grams Cooked ham
  • 100 grams Cranberry sauce
  • 50 grams Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 250 milliliters Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

Grate the farmhouse cheddar cheese and set it aside.

Step 3

Make the béchamel sauce: In a small saucepan, melt 25 grams of unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in Dijon mustard, half of the grated cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if using. Remove from heat and set aside.

Butter one side of each bread slice with the remaining unsalted butter.
