Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes (canned)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley or basil, finely chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 2

Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 3

Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the saucepan and stir until well combined.

Step 4

Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, granulated sugar, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using).

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and simmer the sauce uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.

Step 6

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more salt, pepper, or sugar to suit your preferences.

Step 7

Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded, remove it from the heat.

Step 8

If desired, stir in fresh parsley or basil for added freshness.

Step 9

Let the sauce cool slightly before spreading it on your pizza dough or using it as a dipping sauce. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 3 months.
