In a small saucepan, heat the milk and 4 tablespoons of butter over medium-low heat until the butter melts and the mixture is warm (but not boiling). Remove from heat and let it cool to lukewarm.
In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F) and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk mixture, the yeast mixture, and one beaten egg. Mix to combine.
Gradually add 4 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 14x9 inches).
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Spread the softened butter (6 tablespoons) evenly over the rolled-out dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top.
Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal. Cut the log into 12 even slices and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, cut sides down.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap or a clean towel and let the rolls rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until puffy.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
Once the rolls are out of the oven, spread the glaze over the warm rolls. Serve immediately and enjoy!
