Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Pork spareribs
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 2 Scallions, sliced for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon White sesame seeds for garnish
  • 1 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

Cut the spareribs into smaller sections, 2-3 ribs per section, for easier handling.

Step 3

In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, Chinese five-spice powder, and sesame oil to create the marinade.

Step 4

Place the spareribs in the bowl and thoroughly coat them with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

Step 5

Arrange the marinated spareribs in a single layer in a large roasting pan, meaty side up. Pour any remaining marinade over the ribs and add 1 cup of water to the pan to keep the meat moist while cooking.

Step 6

Cover the roasting pan tightly with aluminum foil, ensuring no steam can escape. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 2.5 hours until the ribs are tender.

Step 7

Remove the foil and baste the ribs generously with the juices in the pan. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and cook the ribs uncovered for an additional 20-30 minutes, basting once or twice with the pan juices to achieve a glossy glaze.

Step 8

Once the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and caramelized, remove them from the oven.

Step 9

Serve the spareribs on a platter, garnished with sliced scallions and a sprinkle of white sesame seeds. Enjoy with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes!
