Ingredients

  • 1 large grapefruit
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 leaves fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven's broiler setting to high. Place the oven rack about 4-6 inches below the broiler element.

Step 2

Cut the large grapefruit in half horizontally. Use a sharp paring knife to carefully loosen the segments by cutting along the membranes, without removing them. This allows for easier eating after broiling.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon.

Step 4

Set the grapefruit halves cut-side up on a baking sheet or oven-safe dish. Spread 1 teaspoon of softened butter onto the top of each grapefruit half.

Step 5

Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture evenly over each grapefruit half. Drizzle 1/2 teaspoon of honey on top of each for added sweetness.

Step 6

Place the grapefruit halves under the broiler and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the sugar is bubbly and slightly caramelized. Watch carefully to avoid burning.

Step 7

Remove the grapefruit from the oven and let it cool for 2 minutes. Optionally, garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving.

Step 8

Serve warm and enjoy as a bright, tangy, and sweet breakfast treat or snack!
