Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated or finely minced
  • 1 can (8 oz) Water chestnuts, diced
  • 4 stalks Scallions, chopped
  • 1 cup Shredded carrots
  • 0.5 teaspoons Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 12 leaves Iceberg or butter lettuce leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil.

Step 2

Once the sesame oil is hot, add the ground beef and break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for about 5–7 minutes or until the beef is browned, draining excess fat if necessary.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for 2–3 minutes until the beef is fully coated in the sauce.

Step 4

Add the diced water chestnuts, shredded carrots, and scallions to the skillet. Stir for another 2 minutes until the vegetables are warmed through.

Step 5

Use a spoon to portion the beef mixture into the lettuce leaves, creating wraps.

Step 6

Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
