Ingredients

  • 4 cups Canned navy beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 6 slices Bacon (chopped into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 medium Yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 0.5 cups Ketchup
  • 0.5 cups Barbecue sauce
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large, oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set them aside on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 3

In the same pan, using the rendered bacon fat, add the diced onion and cook over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, mustard, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine, creating a thick sauce.

Step 6

Add the drained and rinsed navy beans to the pan and stir until the beans are fully coated in the sauce.

Step 7

Fold the cooked bacon pieces back into the bean mixture, reserving a small handful for garnish if desired.

Step 8

If using an oven-safe pan, transfer directly to the preheated oven. If your pan isn’t oven-safe, transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 9

Bake in the oven, uncovered, for 70-90 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even cooking. The sauce should thicken and caramelize slightly around the edges.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the baked beans to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with reserved bacon, if desired.

Step 11

Serve warm as a delicious side dish for barbecue meals, grilled meats, or any comfort food feast!
