Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casing removed)
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 12 slices sliced pepperoni
  • 4 buns hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and dried oregano. Mix thoroughly with your hands, but do not overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pan if cooking indoors.

Step 4

Cook the burger patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.

Reduce the heat to medium-low. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce onto each cooked patty, spreading it evenly.
