Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground pork
  • 1 large Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 1 cup Chicken stock
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large heavy-bottomed saucepan or Dutch oven, combine the ground pork, chopped onion, and minced garlic.

Step 2

Add the whole milk and chicken stock to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Stir frequently to ensure nothing sticks to the bottom of the pan.

Step 3

Once the liquid comes to a gentle boil, reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer uncovered for about 1 hour. Stir every 10-15 minutes to prevent burning.

Step 4

After 1 hour of cooking, stir in the breadcrumbs, ground cloves, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to combine.

Step 5

Continue cooking over low heat for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid is absorbed and the mixture is thickened to a spreadable consistency.

Step 6

Remove the pan from heat and allow the creton to cool slightly.

Step 7

Transfer the creton to a bowl or container, pressing it down to remove any air pockets. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to firm up.

Step 8

Serve chilled or at room temperature as a spread on crusty bread or crackers. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
