Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Pork shoulder (boneless)
  • 2 tablespoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 2 cups Barbecue sauce
  • 8 pieces Burger buns
  • 2 cups Coleslaw (optional, for serving)
  • 1 cup Pickles (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar.

Step 3

Rub the spice mixture evenly all over the pork shoulder.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large Dutch oven or oven-safe heavy pot over medium heat.

Step 5

Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Step 6

Remove the pork from the pot and set it aside.

Step 7

Add the apple cider vinegar and chicken broth to the pot, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Step 8

Return the pork shoulder to the pot, cover tightly with a lid or aluminum foil, and place in the oven.

Step 9

Cook the pork low and slow for 7 hours, or until it is tender and easily shredded with a fork.

Step 10

Remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks.

Step 11

Stir the barbecue sauce into the shredded pork until evenly coated.

Step 12

Toast the burger buns lightly if desired.

Step 13

Assemble the sandwiches by spooning the pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun.

Step 14

Top with coleslaw and pickles, if using, and then place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.

Step 15

Serve warm and enjoy!
