Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 12 ounces spaghetti or linguine pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 14 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp, season with a pinch of salt and black pepper, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until pink and cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and butter. Sauté the diced onion for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and crushed red pepper flakes to the skillet, and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, mixing well. Cook for 3-4 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.

Step 6

Lower the heat to medium and slowly stir in the heavy cream. Add the chili powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Step 7

Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet, and toss gently to coat them in the sauce.

Step 8

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.

Step 9

Stir in the parmesan cheese and let it melt into the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it out with a few spoonfuls of pasta cooking water.

Step 10

Taste and adjust seasonings (add more salt or spice as needed).

Step 11

Plate the pasta and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
