Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ribeye steak
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium Green bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese, sliced
  • 4 Hoagie rolls
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Place the ribeye steak in the freezer for 20–30 minutes to firm up slightly, making it easier to slice thinly.

Step 2

Remove the steak from the freezer, and using a sharp knife, slice the meat as thinly as possible. Season the slices with salt and black pepper and set aside.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Add the sliced onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for 5–7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized. Remove the mixture from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet and increase the heat to high. Add the sliced ribeye steak in a single layer, cooking for 2–3 minutes per side or until just browned.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to medium and return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet. Mix them with the steak until fully combined and heated through.

Step 7

Divide the steak and vegetable mixture into four portions in the skillet. Place two slices of provolone cheese over each portion and allow it to melt, about 1–2 minutes.

Step 8

Lightly toast the hoagie rolls on a separate pan or griddle, if desired. Spread mayonnaise on the rolls if using.

Step 9

Using a spatula, transfer each portion of the steak, vegetable, and melted cheese mixture onto the bottom half of a hoagie roll. Top with the remaining half of the roll.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Emeril's Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich!
