Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (or Italian sausage, optional)
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces Marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles, uncooked
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef (or sausage) until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Remove any excess grease.

Step 3

Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

Step 4

Pour in the marinara sauce, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes. Set the sauce aside.

Step 5

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and set aside.

Step 6

Spread a thin layer of the sauce mixture on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.

Step 7

Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, overlapping slightly. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the marinara sauce and one-third of the mozzarella cheese.

Step 8

Repeat the layers two more times: noodles, ricotta mixture, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Ensure the final layer is topped with a generous amount of mozzarella.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and golden brown.

Step 11

Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to allow the layers to set.

Step 12

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
