Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 2 medium Red onions
  • 4 pieces Fresh red chillies
  • 800 grams Tomatoes (ripe or canned)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon White vinegar
  • 100 milliliters Water
  • 10 pieces Fresh basil leaves

Directions

Step 1

Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Dice the red onions into small pieces.

Step 2

Slice the fresh red chillies thinly, removing the seeds if you'd like less heat.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat.

Step 4

Sauté the garlic, onions, and red chillies in the olive oil for 5 minutes, or until soft and fragrant.

Add the chopped tomatoes (or canned tomatoes) and tomato paste to the pan. Stir well to combine.

Step 6

Add the sugar, salt, ground black pepper, and white vinegar to the mixture.

Pour in the water, stir, and bring the mixture to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
