Ingredients

  • 15 heads Fresh elderflower blossoms
  • 750 ml Vodka
  • 300 g Granulated sugar
  • 250 ml Water
  • 1 piece Lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Inspect the elderflower heads and gently shake to remove any insects. Avoid washing them directly as this may reduce their fragrance. Trim away any large stems, leaving only the small flowers.

Step 2

Place the elderflower heads in a large, clean jar or container with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 3

Add the lemon zest and lemon juice to the jar for a touch of brightness and balance.

Step 4

Pour the vodka over the elderflowers, ensuring they are fully submerged. Close the lid tightly and store the jar in a cool, dark place for 48-72 hours to allow the flavors to infuse.

Step 5

After the infusion period, prepare a simple syrup by combining the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat gently over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.

Step 6

Strain the infused vodka through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl, discarding the elderflowers and solids.

Step 7

Combine the strained vodka with the cooled simple syrup. Stir well to mix thoroughly.

Step 8

Using a funnel, pour the liqueur into sterilized bottles or jars. Seal tightly and label.

Step 9

Allow the liqueur to mature for at least 1 week to let the flavors meld. Store in a cool, dark place.

Step 10

Serve chilled or use in cocktails. Enjoy your fragrant and homemade elderflower liqueur!
