Ingredients

  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and lay them flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, and parsley. Mix well and set aside.

Step 7

Spread about 1 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Add a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1 cup of the meat sauce, and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella. Repeat this layering process two more times, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella on top.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese to avoid sticking. Bake for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly browned. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before serving.
