Ingredients

  • 5 pounds Beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons Kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 large Yellow onions
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Bay leaves

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Step 2

Pat the brisket dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Step 3

Heat a large, oven-safe Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the bottom.

Step 4

Sear the brisket for about 4-5 minutes on each side until a deep golden-brown crust forms. Remove the brisket from the pot and set aside.

Step 5

Slice the onions into thick rings and add them to the Dutch oven. Cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and slightly caramelized.

Step 6

Stir in the beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Scrape the bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon to deglaze and incorporate all the browned bits.

Step 7

Return the brisket to the pot, fat-side up, and nestle it into the liquid. Add the bay leaves.

Step 8

Cover the Dutch oven with a tight-fitting lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.

Step 9

Cook for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, basting the brisket with the juices every hour, until the meat is fork-tender and can easily pull apart.

Step 10

Remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest on a cutting board for 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Step 11

Serve the brisket with the onions and pan juices spooned over the top.
